Sometimes I wish I had the ability to look in on everyone who's ever worked for us and moved away, just to see what they're wearing, of course, and where they're wearing it.
Minus magical powers though, I'm reduced to wondering and waiting for someone to show up with stories and snapshots.
Lucky us, Ken flew out to San Francisco last week to style and party with his favorite barbie, Dawn M., our darling ex-Pink-pat, who left Richmond almost 2 years ago, bound for life in the big city. Ken, stylist extraordinaire and co-owner of Austin's salon and the responsible party for Pink's creative window displays, came back with some great photos of Dawn and her charming husband, John M.
For the time being, she and John, who teaches at an elite boy's school in Pacific Heights and moonlights playing the drums in a band called the Parties, have tuned into San Francisco life, scooping up the opportunity to meet new people, broaden horizons and explore the landscape.
If you're planning a trip to California's City by the Bay, here are a few things that Dawn and John recommend you do:
Immerse yourself in the hustle and bustle of Chinatown and witness the busy life of SF's largest Chinese community then eat Dim Sum at Hang Ah Tea Room.
Carve out a few hours for a picnic lunch at Golden Gate Park. While you're there visit the Deyoung museum where currently there's a Vivienne Westwood retrospective on display.
Shop the abundant vintage stores on Haight St (Dawn's fav is Wasteland) and eat cheap but good at Citrus Club.
For a little Beatnik history, head out to North Beach, stopping off first for coffee and croissants at Cafe Trieste on Grant, and later climbing up to Coit Tower to take in the amazing view and sounds of the city. There you can see a flock of wild parrots, yes parrots, that make Telegraph Hill their home.
And surely all visitors will want to take in the energy and sites of downtown in Union Square. There you'll find everything your consumer heart desires like Chanel, Bloomies, H&M, Saks, Levi Store and coming soon Barneys (her 2nd favorite shopping emporium next to Pink). She recommends taking an outside seat at Rulli cafe for cappucino or an adult beverage and enjoying the buzz of the city.
Dawn's top 5 fav shops in SF are:
Behind the Postoffice-the Haight
Villains-the Haight
Azalea-Hayes Valley
American Rag-Pacific Heights
H&M- crazy I know but she says there's a great one in Union Sq
Dawn, our fearless beauty and muse, one with an inherent ability to put together fresh new looks and one who's talent for styling should reward you the big bucks, Pink misses you.
