The Pink ladies braved the intensely hot conditions last Saturday to tailgate at the first University of Richmond home game. It was a smash hit, despite the fact that you could grill a hot dog on the tailgate of your truck, sans grill. We gave out Pink koozies, raffle tickets (for a chance to win a serious goody bag), and most importantly, about 100 bottled waters. Seriously kids, hydrate yourselves!
The day was a happy reminder what it was like to be 19, energetic, and totally carefree. It was also the start of being truly fashion conscious for many of us, and these girls had it going on! We recognized many of our well clad

“Summer time,” I thought, in a reflective moment the other night as I approached Deborah’s house for a Pink dinner party. The car windows were down, and NPR jazz was on the radio. It was dress and sandal weather. The smell of rosemary and lavender was strong in the humid air.
It is in these rare and too infrequent moments that a person stops and realizes that the days are not just apathetically cruising by, but that we are truly living, breathing, existing. In these moments, everything is in its right place; the world is just as it should be.
And so we arrived at Deborah’s. The house broke the silence of the neighborhood with its many voices. The Pink girls had converged with their boyfriends, daughters, sons and husbands all of whom had gathered on this lovely summer night to laugh, drink, and eat.
Martha and Rebecca Mack both showed up looking outdoorable in their 7FAMK high-waisted Georgia Seersucker pants. Their fashion choice that evening reminded me of an incident that had occurred at a recent wedding in South Carolina. Referring to my boyfriend’s well-worn Seersucker suit, a beloved hand me down from his grandfather, the father of the groom casually joked with Reid and asked, “What? Are you from Atlanta or something?”
Despite its good old southern legacy, Seersucker clearly is not just for your men from the “deep” south anymore folks. From coast to coast, we’re seeing it on women, babies, shoes and handbags.
A couple of us were wearing cool, jersey digs from Velvet, a company who has built their brand around amazingly well-designed and terrifically priced cotton dresses and separates, or what I like to call “bump around” clothes. Both casual and stylish, Velvet is a company that is in its prime.
Each of us that night represented our own personal style some way—our idea of what summer should look like. Beth was demure in her super duper long strand of beads. Martha looked fabulously contemporary clowning around in her lacy, shrunken vest, and Annalynn cut a striking profile, as always, in her long, breezy black dress.
Even though it was a beautiful summer evening, it was hard to resist thinking of the inevitable approach of fall. Of course, we spoke of it; it’s a season that undoubtedly will be filled with exciting new designers and beautifully structured pieces. For now though, it is summertime, and there, with my friends, I was happily reminded with each bite of sweet buttered corn and cold glass of white wine.
